Hey all,
So I talked to a dear friend of mine about the characters and story in Matters of the Heart, and we both came to the conclusion that things need a major revamp. One of the big decisions is that while Rebekkah is now a good, solid character with a good core… I can’t stand her in Matters of the Heart’s current frame. She is moody, whining, and a pain in the ass. With the way that Max is structured — also a solid character — there’s no reason that the two of them would ever meet up and find romance with each other.
Could I rewrite the characters? Make them fit into this contrived love story about magic boxes and lizards? Yes. But they’re both great characters that really just need to find different homes. I’m working on understanding them and their interactions, with other characters, the world, and each other, so we shall see how things work out.
I just got a new tablet yesterday! 🙂 It’s a Wacom Bamboo Capture. I started messing around with it and did some sketchwork of my own. Here’s some glimpses, starting with Max:

Every so often I’ll post songs that fuel my creative process on here for you all to look over. I really like to share what it is that pushes these ideas forward. This one is a song called Leia, created with the Vocaloid system. A Japanese choral group, calling themselves the Nico Nico Chorus, covered the song. I love the mixture of the classical and rock in this.
With my dreams and desires, I sometimes feel like this mother who has given birth to a child. She is beautiful, perfect, and all that I have imagined. She has some flaws, but it doesn’t matter — she is my child. She is a part of me, and as such I’ll cherish her forever. I hold my child for just a moment — in that brief moment, I am happy beyond what I can imagine, for the glimpse of my child — but then I watch her struggle to take in breath. She can’t breathe the air in this world outside of my body. It’s killing her. She keeps trying to breathe in, and she makes a horrendous gurgling, choking sound.Continue reading
The fourth question asked developers what they needed in terms of services. Whether it’s coaching, music, or marketing, indie developers let us know what they needed. One again, funding was a popular answer, but because it is a service, it was not included in the responses below.

Facing up to our failures are often the hardest thing to do. Sometimes we try the best that we can, but we still don’t succeed. Reflecting on these failures can help us to achieve more and do better in the future. That’s why the third question focused on failures:

The second question on the game developer needs survey asked what it is that kept developers from reaching their goals. The overwhelmingly reoccurring response type had to do with obtaining funding, but there were other very large concerns.
